Solution: Ability testing for high stakes operational staff selection
Since starting our partnership with Talogy we’ve seen significant improvement in candidate preparedness for the 3-month induction course, lifting successful course completions from 66% to 97%.
RET is a leading transport organisation in the Netherlands, operating mainly in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas. Founded in 1905 as the single operator for Rotterdam’s tram network, today the well-known transportation body operates not just tram lines, but also bus and metro lines throughout Rotterdam. Anyone successfully applying to a role as a RET driver for either tram or metro will be enrolled in an intensive three-month course that first educates participants on rules, regulations, and procedures, followed by practical driving instructions once theoretical exams are successfully completed. This course is essential for long-term driver success but is costly for RET to support. For that reason, RET wanted to enrol only those who are likely to successfully complete the course.
RET was looking for an assessment solution that was both highly predictive and quick to complete for candidates. They wanted to ensure the solution helped them minimise course costs for unsuccessful participants, while also keeping their applicants engaged, given the small talent pool the organisation is dealing with for this specific role. They decided to implement Talogy’s Logiks ability test series – a practical, highly predictive, 15-minute cognitive ability test that measures a combination of verbal, numerical, and abstract ability. “RET was looking for a no-nonsense solution that enabled them to make a “go/no go” decision confidently, given them simple, actionable insights while also appealing to their operational target audience – Logiks helped them with exactly that.” says Wendy Lian, RET account manager at Talogy, “we collaborated closely to identify the right cut off score to make the selection process as straight forward as possible, striving to maximise the number of successful candidates while minimising course investment”.
RET has been using the Logiks solution since 2020, with thousands of candidates completing the assessment each year. Immediately after implementation, the organisation saw a significant increase in successful course completions, lifting success rates from 66% before starting the Talogy partnership, to 97% percent today. “The results speak for themselves”, says Peter Dirk Bilker, Corporate Recruiter at RET, “this quick and simple assessment intervention allows us to identify successful applicants effectively, improving the hiring process for both candidates and RET.”
