Industry: Healthcare
Headquarters: United Kingdom
Solution: Talogy’s Coaching with Emotional Intelligence
East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST), one of the organizations within the United Kingdom’s publicly funded National Health Service (NHS), partnered with Talogy to build a sustainable internal coaching capability. Through the creation of a Coaching Academy and the accreditation of 36 internal coaches, EEAST equipped its people to support leadership development, employee well-being, and professional growth across its geographically dispersed frontline workforce.
Like many healthcare organizations around the world, EEAST operates in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where leaders must support employee performance while maintaining exceptional patient care. The organization wanted to create greater consistency in coaching practices, expand its internal coaching capability, and establish the governance needed to build a sustainable coaching culture.
Through Talogy’s Coaching with Emotional Intelligence program, EEAST is developing a network of accredited coaches and laying the foundation for a high-quality Coaching Academy that can support colleagues across the organization.
The challenge
EEAST provides emergency ambulance and urgent care services across a large geographic region, with teams working in demanding, time-critical healthcare environments. Many leaders and specialists already incorporated coaching into mentoring, facilitation, clinical supervision, community first responder support, and team development.
As the organization continued investing in leadership capability and employee well-being, it identified three priorities.
1. Consistency and confidence
Move from varying coaching approaches to a shared, professional standard of coaching practice.
2. Capacity and reach
Build a sustainable network of accredited internal coaches capable of supporting employees across multiple locations, departments, and work schedules.
3. Culture and quality
Establish a Coaching Academy with clear governance, supervision, and measurement to ensure coaching remains safe, ethical, and high impact within a healthcare environment.
To achieve these goals, EEAST wanted to provide three cohorts of 36 participants with the opportunity to earn a recognized coaching accreditation while establishing the foundation for an organization-wide Coaching Academy.
Program objectives
Working in partnership with Talogy, EEAST set out to:
- Develop 36 accredited internal coaches through three cohorts of Coaching with Emotional Intelligence
- Translate existing coaching strengths into consistent, professional practice while clearly defining the boundaries between coaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision.
- Equip coaches with practical emotional intelligence tools they could immediately apply in fast-paced, clinically sensitive environments.
- Create a Coaching Academy supported by robust governance, referral pathways, coach matching, supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and evaluation.
- Establish a shared coaching language and consistent coaching standards across the organization to support performance, employee well-being, inclusion, and patient-centered leadership.
The solution
Talogy partnered closely with EEAST to design and deliver a blended learning solution that recognized the realities of ambulance operations, geographically dispersed teams, and the emotional demands of frontline healthcare.
Participants completed Talogy’s Coaching with Emotional Intelligence program through three cohorts of 12 participants. The blended learning experience was designed to build coaching capability and confidence while aligning with recognized accreditation standards. The program emphasized practical application, enabling experienced professionals to strengthen the coaching skills they already used by adopting ethical, structured, and outcomes-focused coaching practices.
Our solutions included:
- Interactive virtual and in-person workshops designed around operational realities.
- Live coaching practice with structured feedback and observed coaching sessions.
- Reflective learning journals to deepen self-awareness.
- Coaching supervision to reinforce safe and ethical practice.
- Portfolio support leading to an externally recognized coaching accreditation.
Key areas of focus:
- Developing a coaching mindset, presence, and emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-regulation, and empathy.
- Understanding contracting, ethics, and professional boundaries while distinguishing coaching from mentoring, people management, and clinical supervision.
- Strengthening advanced listening, powerful questioning, and feedback skills.
- Applying coaching models to structure effective coaching conversations.
- Planning outcomes, creating accountability, and evaluating coaching impact.
This approach built on participants’ existing strengths while creating greater consistency, confidence, and clarity across the organization.
The impact
Engagement throughout the initial cohorts has been strong, with consistently positive participant feedback.
EEAST has already seen:
- A shared coaching language and clearer distinctions between coaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision.
- Increased confidence in leading ethical, structured coaching conversations.
- A growing network of trained internal coaches progressing toward accreditation.
- The foundation for a high-quality Coaching Academy supported by governance, supervision, and performance measurement.
- Employees reporting more purposeful, compassionate coaching conversations that support performance, learning, and employee well-being.
What’s next with Talogy?
As EEAST continues expanding its Coaching Academy, Talogy will support the organization by:
- Completing accreditation for all three participant cohorts.
- Providing supervision infrastructure and an annual continuing professional development plan tailored to the realities of healthcare operations.
- Supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of the Coaching Academy.
Together, EEAST and Talogy are building a compassionate, capability-rich coaching culture that strengthens leaders, supports employees, and ultimately helps improve the quality of care through more meaningful coaching conversations.
